With over 25 years of experience and 150+ lending clients, we provide thoughtfully designed technology solutions that streamline the loan origination process for the commercial lending and equipment finance industries.

Our flagship solution, Aurora, is a fully automated loan/lease origination system (LOS) and vendor/customer portal. Aurora enables lenders and their partners to automate the origination process from application to funding in just 3 minutes. We also partner with some of today’s most innovative fintech companies to create turnkey Salesforce apps that simplify and automate the loan origination process.

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, we offer fully remote and hybrid career options; so, when you work for Northteq, you can work from anywhere!

Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is a player-coach role on the Product team responsible for making sure Northteq ships the right things, fast, and at quality. You will split your time between hands-on Salesforce development and leading the engineering team through disciplined, metric-driven delivery. The balance between coding and management will shift based on business needs, but the expectation is that you remain a strong technical contributor while owning engineering execution end to end.

You will manage all product developers, run sprint planning and delivery cadence, and be directly accountable for the team delivering on its commitments. You are expected to bring urgency and energy to work that drives ARR and client value, not just technical elegance. The right candidate is someone who gets excited about shipping product that wins deals, not just solving interesting engineering problems.

You will also own the technical enablement of Professional Services; building and maintaining implementation frameworks, configuration patterns, and technical guardrails that allow PS to deliver client implementations efficiently and independently. This is an ongoing responsibility that directly scales Northteq’s delivery capacity.

You are expected to be an active adopter and advocate for AI-assisted development. You will evaluate and implement AI tooling across the engineering workflow; code generation, automated testing, documentation, code review and identify opportunities where AI can accelerate both product development and client implementation.

You will work in close partnership with the Head of Product.

The Head of Product owns product strategy and roadmap (the what and why); as Engineering Manager you own delivery execution and engineering quality (the how and when). Both roles share accountability for shipping product that drives ARR and client value.”

Essential Job Functions

Engineering & Technical Delivery (~50%)

  • Write production-quality code in Apex, Lightning Web Components, the Salesforce platform Azure AI and external API integrations. Contribute directly to Aurora product development including new features and improvement
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the Aurora platform.
  • Get productive quickly in Aurora’s existing codebase. This is a mature, complex Salesforce application, the ability to navigate, understand, and contribute to an established architecture is essential.
  • Conduct code reviews for all product development work. Enforce coding standards and ensure code quality before anything ships.
  • Contribute to technical architecture decisions in collaboration with the Head of Product and Technical Architect.
  • Own quality standards for the engineering team: define what “done” means, establish testing expectations, set release criteria, and drive continuous improvement in defect rates. When quality issues reach PS or clients, own the response and the process improvement.
  • Maintain a healthy balance between feature delivery and technical debt reduction. Surface and prioritize debt that threatens delivery velocity, quality, or security.
  • Own secure coding standards, code analysis tooling (SAST), and timely remediation of vulnerability findings, including penetration test results, SOC 2 controls, and security review outcomes.

Team Leadership & Delivery Management (~40%)

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of 4 product developers. Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and build a high-performing team.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and own career development planning, performance reviews, and compensation conversations for direct reports.
  • Lead hiring, interviewing, and onboarding for new engineering team members as the team grows.
  • Address performance issues directly, including formal performance management of underperformers in partnership with HR.
  • Run sprint/increment planning, daily standups, retrospectives, and demo sessions with discipline and rigor. This is not agile-in-name-only; the team makes commitments, tracks against them, and is accountable for outcomes.
  • Own the team’s delivery commitments and metrics end to end — from planning through execution to reporting. Establish baselines, set targets, and continuously improve delivery performance over time.
  • Identify and remove blockers daily.
  • Manage capacity planning and resource allocation across active projects. Protect committed work from unplanned interruptions.
  • Drive urgency around work that directly supports ARR; new product delivery, features that unblock pipeline, and functionality that accelerates client go-lives. Push back on work that does not move the business forward.

PS Technical Enablement & AI (~10%)

  • Build and maintain technical implementation frameworks, configuration templates, runbooks, and guardrails that PS can follow to deliver client implementations independently and at quality.
  • Provide architecture guidance and technical problem-solving support to PS developers. PS does not report to this role, but this role is the technical bridge between Product and PS and helps to mentor and build PS skillsets.
  • Collaborate with PS leadership to define and maintain product capability boundaries; what is supported natively, what is configurable, and what is out of scope.
  • Actively evaluate and implement AI tools to accelerate engineering workflows: code generation, automated testing, documentation, code review, and deployment automation.
  • Identify and pilot AI-driven improvements to the client implementation process in partnership with PS leadership.
  • Stay current on AI developments relevant to Salesforce development and wider technology best practices and incorporate into the product development lifecycle.

Employee is held accountable for all duties of this job and other duties as assigned.

    Experience & Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
    • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with significant depth in the Salesforce platform (Apex, Lightning Web Components, SOQL, Salesforce DX).
    • 3+ years of engineering management experience, including direct responsibility for team delivery, performance management, and coaching.
    • 3+ years of delivery management experience running disciplined agile/scrum processes with defined commitments, tracked metrics, and accountability for shipping on time. Experience in loose or unstructured agile environments does not meet this requirement.
    • Demonstrated track record of getting productive quickly in mature, complex codebases — not just greenfield projects.
    • Experience with AI-assisted development tools and a demonstrated interest in applying AI to engineering workflows.

Education and certifications can be earned in role.

    Job Requirements

    • Deep proficiency in Salesforce development: Apex, LWC, Visualforce, Flows, and platform architecture patterns.
    • Experience with source control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and Salesforce DX or similar deployment tooling.
    • Familiarity with project management and delivery tracking tools (Linear, Jira, or equivalent).
    • Ability to context-switch between hands-on coding and management responsibilities without letting either slide.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to diagnose root causes of delivery issues, not just symptoms.
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate technical decisions for non-technical stakeholders.
    • Comfortable with delivery accountability: setting targets, tracking metrics, and owning outcomes publicly.
    • Business-minded engineering leader — understands that the purpose of engineering is to ship product that drives revenue and client value, and energized by that connection.
    • Independent and self-directed; able to operate with minimal supervision in a remote environment.
    • Must display all Northteq core values.

    Preferred but not Required

    • Experience in equipment finance, leasing, or commercial lending.
    • Experience with Salesforce OEM/ISV product development.
    • Salesforce Platform Developer I or II certification.
    • Experience creating reusable technical frameworks or implementation playbooks for services or implementation teams.
    • Experience mentoring developers across teams or functions (e.g., supporting a professional services team alongside a product team).

      • If the employee is in the Twin Cities Metro area of MN, office space can be provided in our WeWork office.

    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
