A Succesful Internship

Turner Gravin – Northteq Software Developer Intern
University of Minnesota Class of ’23
Northteq would like to congratulate Turner Gravin on completing his internship with our company! Turner is a young, brilliant computer science major with a healthy dose of modesty.
Turner started his internship as a junior software developer, working under the mentorship of our very own, Andrew Sisulak, Support Technical Lead. Turner then parlayed to the product management side, getting hands on experience with our product, working on development and code, under the tutelage of Griffin Higley Northteq Software Engineer. One of Turner’s major accomplishments while interning with Northteq was to receive his Salesforce Admin Certificate.
Turner will be graduating class of 2023 from our very own University of Minnesota. When Turner isn’t working hard to solve coding issues, he enjoys listening to one of his favorite bands, Radio Head, strumming his guitar, and keeping fit and in shape on vigorous runs. One of our favorite things about Turner is his tenacity to not only get the job done, but to do it well. He was a pleasure to work with and we know that he has a very bright future, maybe even some day here with our team as a future developer…
Northteq knows that a healthy work environment means happy employees. That is why we promote transparency and accountability in all that we do, as our company was founded on Traction, an entrepreneurial operating system also known as EOS.
EOS ®, the Entrepreneurial Operating System ® is a comprehensive business system, integrating a holistic business model giving teams the tools to align and synchronize all the pieces (and people) of their business to produce results. It’s a business philosophy that aims to make work enjoyable and meaningful (yes, even for interns). Relevant goal setting, and accountability are some of the key business components that Turner was able to glean from his time with us.
We took a few moments to speak with Turner and gain valuable insight from his time interning with us as a junior developer. We thought it’d be more helpful to interview Turner and share his answers directly.
For Turner, the biggest takeaway from his experience is that we must "understand how to work with people." This isn't about just working with other people in your company, but also with your clients and customers. The value of a great customer experience can't be overstated.
Turner Gravin Q & A
“I learned a ton of technical things. I learned the basics of Salesforce, some admin stuff, and some web development. But I also learned how to work with a team… when I was applying for coding internships, I thought I’d be working by myself the whole time, you know, but a lot of it comes down to teamwork, and I found that aspect of the internship really fun.”
“I was able to see how a business operates and that was a “black box” to me before starting here. I was able to see a lot of the business side of things, from equipment to finance.”
“Our monthly and quarterly meetings were very informative and helpful in getting the wheels turning. Having regular meetings helped with transparency which made work easier to accomplish. The meetings filled in a lot of gaps and helped me understand more about how the industry works as well as the operational side of a company. I was excited to be able to participate in completion of one of Northteq’s quarterly rocks.”

Andrew Sisulak
Support Technical Lead
“I had the fortune of introducing Turner to working at Northteq in his internship with his Support rotation. He started with little knowledge of what Salesforce was, and we got him working on our internal improvements to make our Support processes run smoother, demonstrating our core values each step of the way. When faced with challenges that he couldn’t figure out, he would ask for guidance and he was able to learn from our developers who had more experience. Near the end of his internship, he completed his Salesforce Administrator Certification, something he wasn’t expecting he would have been able to complete on the first day.”
When turner says ‘rocks’ he’s talking about the larger goals that work to support Northteq’s vision. It’s important that everyone works on small, bite-size components of rocks so that they understand how their work is contributing to the overarching mission. It’s part of how we embrace transparency and ownership, two of our core values.
Northteq’s core values (teamwork, ownership, positive attitude, integrity, curiosity, and customer service) are more than buzzwords on the wall. We use our values to shape decisions; this means even our interns own projects, and c-level executives have questions every day.
We’re currently looking for people who exemplify our values. If you’re a curious, hard-working, team player, we’re always hiring and post available positions here. We’re always accepting resumes, so if you don’t see a role you’re interested in, email us at careers@northteq.com
